In our Genesis readings- I noticed a while back that it says that even though Sarah was well past child bearing age she was still beautiful- enough so that Abraham made her lie that she was his sister (well not EXACTLY lie- but bend the truth or omit the fact that she was his wife).Also more recently in our Genesis readings where it talks about all of Jacob's sons from his wives etc.. I am wondering what the significance is that the children through the maidservants or concubines count as legitimate heirs--- I mean if God is the one controlling Rachel and Leah's womb-- why go through maidservents???and in our NT readings- when the Pharisees demand a sign and Christ says he'd only give a sign of Jonah-- I'm not sure really what that means other than maybe that he'd rise from the dead-- kind of like Jonah was int he whale --I can paste refernces later if need be- but now with the baby needing to eat- I have to just type what I can when I can.

Gen 17: 13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. 14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant. 25 And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 26 In the selfsame day was Abraham circumcised, and Ishmael his son. 27 And all the men of his house, born in the house, and bought with money of the stranger, were circumcised with him.so... for abraham to keep his part of the covenant he had to have pretty much all the males in his line or possession circumcised.... but at the same time... if one of them wasn't it cut that person off from his people? or it somehow made abraham not holding up his end? Basically I'm asking-- does it sound like the people being circumcised here had a say in the matter- if the real circumcision was to be of the heart why was abraham supposed to have ALL of those men around him also circumcised??? does the circumcision here also make Ishmael under Abraham's covenant in anyway- I know that when Haagar was told what will be of her son - it said he'd be a great nation and all- but what about the fact that he was circumcised?

I'm a first time mother of a newborn and I am having trouble getting the readings in whether its because I start and am interrupted or I start and my eyes get heavy - any suggestions? I have been given a book of minute meditations ( I think that's the name) and I really appreciate and enjoy its encouraging words- but its still not Scripture---ALSO-- I'm new to the faith and because I"m taking care of the baby during Sunday school, Bible study, and meeting in general- I feel like I'm missing out on the whole learning experience-- please please advice from experienced moms.

Well, I figured I'd add my current situation and two cents...I suppose it all comes down to priorites in the end, doesn't it. What matters most? I am 22 y.o. and we just had our first child. I was in school to get my degree in elementary education..I was just a matter of weeks away from completing my degree requirements with student teaching and all I had to do was take a final in a class I already had an A in... (enter conflict)My husband also is in school- nigh classes to get his electrical engineering degree- but since the baby was coming he was also working two jobs because I had quit mine to do student teaching and being pregnant- I ended up stopping student teaching two months prior to finishing and am "scheduled" to return in February- but now that our son is here... it just doesn't seem likely-- it seems odd that I'd get so far in school and do so well but my husband is convinced that God's will is that I stay home-- and I know that's what the Bible teaches and I can't imagine having someone else watch him while he's so young-- like the article mentioned critical periods for bonding etc... WELL my husband is debating whether or not to quit school because he's b attling what is more important- not being home but in a matter of years b eing able to make more money--- or not getting his degree- working like 40 hours weeks but having more time for us at home and to study God's word--- OBVIOUSLY- the priority is to do God's will-- and the latter option has been on his mind- but he's not 100% sure- just as I am not 100% sure that I shouldn't finish my degree---I don't think I'm going back to school though seriously- I don't see how one could study or really produce much quality work with a newborn keeping you up at night anyway really.I want to be a teacher-- but I am a mom and that is more important to me- even if me teaching would allow enough income for my husband to NOT have to work- he feels convinced that HE should be the one working and doesn't want me to HAVE to work but we should rely on God to provide-- we don't need the "extras" in life- and what is more valuable to us is time spent together--- you can't take it with you any of the extra money that he'd make or I'd make-- it just doesn't seem to be in black in white what God's will is on this one yet-- we'll have to wait and see what happens between now and the start of the semester--Sorry for getting so longwinded-- but its just fresh on my mind.

How is it you say that he took the sinner's place? he died for us...we still die.... he took our sin... we still sin...?

Okay... questions:1) are all of these referring to the same time? In Luke Jesus is saying that a time is coming... so the luke and rev. ones seem like they could be the same. 2) Do they have a dual interpretation like.. something happened back then and will happen?3) When it talks about "kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;" ...I thought that mountains were symbolic of things like government... so aren't kings of the earth a form of government?

I think you're onto the right track here when you talk about the battle with yourself. I understand verses 14-25 to be discussing the conflict between spirit and flesh that goes on inside each one of us. I don't think Paul is absolving himself of responsibility for the sin because in v 23-24 he quite clearly links sin to death and calls himself wretched because of it.I think he has a similar sense in Gal 2:20 where he says

After the veil was torn at the crucifixion of Jesus, what do Jewish people do today for sacrifices. If they don't still do a form of a sacrifice, do they still think their sins are covered? They keep other aspects of the law like not working on the Sabbath etc... but this is a huge and I was just curious if someone knew what current practice is.

You know I might have misheard now that I think about it again _ I think they mentioned LION power -- its some symbolic thing- I can ask more when my husband gets home-- but like I said LONG DAY-I still don't know if Russia is expected because of location or a particular verse leads them to think that.

No... I refer you to the Armoury... An specifically to this article.
I don't think satan exists as traditionally I was taught- that is I don't think its a single being- the word means adversary- and I DEFINITELY can't think Lucifer refers to the popular "Satan" after reading Isaiah 13 and 14 etc.. in talking about the Phrophecy against Babylon.

But what about his life? He defeated sin... the flesh ultimately had to die, but he had been "dying" daily in his life... if you mean physically did he shove a nail- well no...but he willingly went so in that sense he put to death the flesh even in the end I think- not just the resistance of sin...but by showing that the flesh had to die. That is what I got out of it...

I think that if you are celebrating it you should ask yourself why and know what the origins are and possible impressions that might be left. Just my opinion. (tosses two cents)

Okay another question along the lines of Eve in the garden.. when it says that she was deceived... is that implying somehow that it wasn't sin? why do you think he was 100% God too? Adam was a man created completly by God without a human father and that didn't make him God..so why does the 'second Adam' become 100% God when he is formed?

I've recently joined the Christadelphians and am discouraged by how many I'm finding celebrate holidays like Christmas, Easter, Halloween, etc... I am just not sure why some Christadelphians celebrate these. ... maybe I'm making more out of it than I should... but it just seems odd.

I am interested in understanding the history involved in the time of Daniel 11. I am not sure where to really begin. I am interested in the CHristadelphian interpretation but I"d like to be able to research it in general history too. I suppose my first question is about the kings under consideration in the first few verses. Who are they? Because I have attended a Baptist church most of my life I was most familiar with their traditions- they had the individual cups. When I watch the Christadelphians drink from the same cup it does kind of set me on edge ( just my own upbringing I guess... but I drink after my sister and husband... its just I wasn't raised to drink after other people).

So the devil in this case is the sinful nature which leads to death?and it applies to us in both this present life and also after this life? I was having a conversation with my grandmother, who believes that everyone will be raised. I asked her, "why do you think that?". Her response included an inference to the scene where people go to water or a tree or healing... this sounds familiar. SHe didn't have the verse off hand, and I did a word search but no luck. I am not sure how to explain it either really- because I remember reading that it does say that the one who was overcome was the devil- but then I thought God was the one who had all the power- but Jesus did overcome death- so maybe sin/death was the adversary talked about... I'm just not familiar enough with it to explain it- I mean it makes sense that its not some mystical creature- but I just don't know how to defend it.In that verse mentioned earlier Hebrews 2it uses the word devil- which from what I see is the word diabolos- which means prone to slander, slanderous, accusing falselyhttp://www.blueletterbible.org/tmp_dir/wor...44003-8107.htmlok so a false accuser-- but I don't understand why that word is used there.

I'm not familiar with that term yet- do you mean like the idea that Jesus didn't die FOR everyone's sin (bc then Everyone would be free and clear etc...) but that it was a representation of the fact that death is the consequence of sin.. but he didn't sin but our sins were put on to him at the cross- so that when the faithful are raised those they are accountable for their decision action in llife God can see Christ's perfect sacrifice and we are not held accountable for what we would deserve which would be death...but I haven't really thought about this before a lot othese ideas and terms are new to me. While I am rtecalling being taught that Christ sacrifice also would be to save the earth too ( but I've been taught things along the way that are not right). Okay so Christ did take on sin of everyone but it wasn't llike "Okay, now everyone is going to be glorified...I don't think that at all...I'll have to look up some verses because I really haven't thought about this much.

After the veil was torn at the crucifixion of Jesus, what do Jewish people do today for sacrifices. If they don't still do a form of a sacrifice, do they still think their sins are covered? They keep other aspects of the law like not working on the Sabbath etc... but this is a huge and I was just curious if someone knew what current practice is.

You know I might have misheard now that I think about it again _ I think they mentioned LION power -- its some symbolic thing- I can ask more when my husband gets home-- but like I said LONG DAY-I still don't know if Russia is expected because of location or a particular verse leads them to think that.

I don't think satan exists as traditionally I was taught- that is I don't think its a single being- the word means adversary- and I DEFINITELY can't think Lucifer refers to the popular "Satan" after reading Isaiah 13 and 14 etc.. in talking about the Phrophecy against Babylon.

I have heard some explanations of who Gog and Magog are. However, just hearing an explanation isn't enough for me to be convinced. WHY do Christadelphians think Gog is a certain group? I am looking for Biblical support. Thanks in advance.

I've heard of a "rainbowed angel" mentioned recently; but I am not sure where it is discussed in the Bible? What significance is there to this?
